The Phoenix Center at Auraria a valuable resource

1 in 3 women have experienced rape, physical violence or stalking, by an intimate partner in their lifetime. According to a worker at the Pheonix Center, these occurrences happen more than some would like to accept. “Its all around us, It happens on this campus it happens in our communities and really effects most everyone at some point in their lives.”
This center advocates the often difficult task of educating and assisting those afflicted by interpersonal violence.

“Denver is safe but being an urban area there is a lot of interpersonal violence, there is a lot of sexual violence, it’s so important to have a center like that here on campus. Its a a safe place for those studnts to go, they will know that they will have a confidential advocate for them who can help them through those processes, take them to the hospital, go with them to court dates, be a shoulder to cry on.”

The Phoenix Center only exists on campus with a majority vote from the students. Jessica Frazier expresses her concern about the future of The Phoenix Center; “Our continued services to Metropolitan state university students will be contingent on getting a majority vote.”
The cost to keep the Phoenix center available to students is only $2 per student for each semester.

Did you know that every 2 seconds someone in the United States, requires a transfusion of blood. The Met Report’s Cinthia Maldonado brings us a story about a little girl’s second chance at life. Victoria Iknoen had open heart surgery at the age of 5 and tells us how a blood donation had saved her life.
